Are You Excited for 2016?

Never Too LATE Tobymac

Wow, it’s January 2016.  The New Year  is here!  How did you do?  Did you finish the year off strong?  Or more importantly, are you starting it out where you left off with no guilt?  All those goals you made back in January of 2015 can’t possibly be checked off…or at least mine are not!  But you know what….that’s perfectly OK!  It is more important to pick up where you left off and keep on going!  I am.

How about we tackle all those things we put off in 2015 together!  It’s time to tackle them now.  It’s very common to fall behind or to procrastinate and put off until tomorrow, or the next day, or the next.  Sound familiar?  Don’t beat yourself up about it.  Let it go!  I saw a quote from Eric Worre that went something like this.

Here are some things I am most looking forward to in 2016!  I am kind of excited!   I love this three step guide to start the new year right!

#1 Check off the little things.

What little baggage did you carry into the new year?  Take the time this first week in January to clearing your plate which will than give you more time for #2 and #3 below and start the next part of January with a fresh start!  It may mean filing those extra bits of paperwork.  For me, it’s more than a little bit of paper work!  Paperwork and me are not the best of friends but this year I am making friends with my quicken program, bookwork, and filing on a regular basis!  I am now saying “I get to do paperwork so the rest of the day will be more fun!”.

Or maybe you need to tune up your car for winter, or tidy up the garage, or read the Bible in a year (another one of mine I didn’t succeed with in 2015) – scrap them as quickly as you can along with any minor “bumps in the road” that pop up along the way.  They’re not worth piling on your “need-to-do” list as that will only deplete your mental thinking you definitely can put to use elsewhere.  Trust me….I know, since I have spent the last couple days filing, entering data, & filing some more.  I am moving on with a clean slate?.

#2 Assess your Year.

Aside from the little things, this is also a good time to focus on bigger stuff.  How did your year go for you?  Like I said above, if there is something you hoped to achieve, but didn’t quite make your goal, what can you do reach it this year?  Try setting aside a few hours in the next day or so and reflect on last year since you’re probably not thinking much about it.  Really resonate on your efforts.  How could you improve them?  Be honest now….“Are you happy with where you are and what you did?”.

Just like most individuals, I can work a bit harder both professionally and personally.  Professionally, my husband and I hope to earn this trip to Machu Picchu!  Hats off to Shaklee for offering such an amazing trip.  I’ve always wanted to go here!

Personally, I’m training again for another International Marathon.   My husband and I are headed back to Rome and I’ll be running my twenty-third marathon without him by my side, since he’s still coming back from a knee injury.

Running a marathon is tough, but when you add travel to the mix, it’s even harder!  I plan on doing my very best and just maybe, if I have a good day, the weather cooperates, and all those other variables fall into place, just maybe I’ll have a BQ in Rome.  That would be awesome, but if it doesn’t happen, I know I’ll have a BLAST running Rome.  #irunrome.

I am also picking up where I left off reading the Bible in a Year.  It’s something I did in a class a couple decades ago and it was one of my best years ever.  I have received a couple different versions so no excuses right!

One of the first things I enjoy in the morning is sitting by my fireplace reading from my daily word booklet and than a couple pages in my Bible.  Because our winters in Minnesota sometimes get a bit long, (ok than, most often they are loooong) my fireplace is on, more often than not.   Snuggling up by the fireplace first thing in the morning is about the only thing I like about winter?.

Bible in a Year
“Have you ever read a Chronological Bible in a Year?”

Remember, successful people never fail, they re-assess and re-play.

#3 Start now!

We’ve all heard this before right!  The time is now.  There is so much truth to it despite being way overused.  Truth be told, I heard this on a conference call again last night……Why wait.  Start Now!  Make a plan.

Here we go…. So if there’s something you really want to accomplish or need to finish, there is no reason to wait till tomorrow!  I believe I’ve heard that saying before too.   Remember your beginning doesn’t have to be on a full out sprint, but start small with what you have.  Seriously, you wouldn’t go out and run a marathon, or any race without some kind of plan right?  When I started running over three decades ago, I started using Hal Higdon’s Marathon training programs.  You can follow anyone of those or find one that works for you.  Just start.  By the time Mid-January comes around, you’ll already be in the right mindset to kick some ass!  Both Professionally and Personally.
