Cinque Terre – Day 1

I realize there are there are numerous other bloggers who have written about their experience in Cinque Terre, but if you don’t mind, I’d love to share a little of what I have discovered.

Immediately when we checked in, I fell in love with our hostess and her little cafe/bar.  Breakfast happens to be included with our room stay so trust me, the best deal thus far on our trip.  Best americano and fresh squeezed juice plus whatever else you want…..fresh bread toasted with jam & butter, pastry or fruit or both?.  Even the fresh bread toasted tastes better in Italy?.

After dropping our bags in our small but quaint room, we started out on our hike.  Everything my husband and friends have told me about this place is true!  Truly one of God’s master pieces you don’t want to miss out on if at all possible.

The scenery is breath taking and I know my pictures are nothing in comparison to what you’d experience in person, or maybe from professional photographers, but I couldn’t help but post a few.

I’d say the hike is definitely not easy and I’m thankful now I didn’t beat myself up out on the marathon course Sunday.  We took somewhat of a wrong turn and ended up on the original trail which until the 1920’s was the only connection between Manarola and Riomaggiore.  It was steep, rocky and challenging and we didn’t even realize it was for “experienced excursionists” till we got to the top!  Oh boy!

Seriously happy to read we only had .25 kilometers to go.  It sure seemed a lot farther than the last two tenths of a marathon course however!  But the view I’d say was better and we didn’t have to pay an entry fee for this finish?.

We certainly earned our bottle of local white crispy but dry white wine and dinner.  Although the reds in Italy have been amazing, this town specializes in whites.  They definitely know how to make their white wine!  And of course I don’t have to say much more about the food,  we haven’t had a bad meal yet?.
