Like most runners or exercise enthusiasts, it’s a tradition to start your Turkey day with some kind of activity.  Maybe a local race or in my case, Turkey Day Butts and Guts.  Just like every other year, my friend Sarah, kicks our butt, literally!  Everyone who attends brings a donation for food shelf and hopefully lots of energy to burn!  It’s a great way to start the day!

It’s also becoming a tradition to run a race on Thanksgiving weekend and this year was no different.  This is my third year running the Moustache run, and I can now say I have run all three distances.

I wasn’t blogging much when I ran this race in 2013, and to be honest, I didn’t realize I was first in my age group until I started writing this post.  I do remember it being a fun run, but the hills at the end got me.  And lets be honest here, running a race after Turkey Day is a bit more challenging…..call it Turkey hangover and a few too many alcoholic beverages.

Last year was a 10K with my brother.  We had blast and it was even more special because two of special nieces joining us.  You can read about it here.

This year I ran the shorter distance.  I didn’t even realize when I registered it was not chipped, but I also understand why.  I think.   What an odd distance…at least in my opinion.  Remember my 7K?  However that one was my error.

So unofficially I averaged 7:54 minute pace for the first 3.1 miles giving me a 24.34 time for an unofficial 5K.  Not a personal best but I practiced my Heart Rate Training with another EAT so overall it went ok.  My last mile was slower than I had wanted, but I was a bit confused since I should be done racing at 3.1 and the finish line was still almost a half mile away.  Guess I need to pay more attention when I register for races in the future.  Plus running on cobblestones gets me every time, espeically at the end of a race when you’re trying to giver you’re all.

Seriously – 3.53 miles?

The best part of the day was spending it with this lovely lady I get to call my mom and best friend!

Since it was Shop Local Saturday, after we returned form Minneapolis we made our way around our great town of Hutchinson.  I love supporting local businesses!  Unfortunately we didn’t make it to all of them, but we had fun.
