When Plan A Doesn’t Happen & Goals I am Working On

Mid-September is here.  The leaves are starting to turn, the chill is in the air, and it’s soup weather again.  YEAH for Soup.  I love this time of year for so many reasons.  Soup, yes, what’s not to love about tall boots, cozy sweaters, and running hats and gloves.

Not looking Good!

Speaking of running…At the top of my list is getting away with my husband for a fall destination race.  Last week or so my husband so conveniently left his upcoming schedule on my desk for me to see one morning.  He was all ready at work so I unfortunately worried about it the entire day. I was really hoping it didn’t mean what I thought it meant.  But it did.

With just three weeks to go before my fall marathon, I am now finding a new marathon to run.  The good news, there are plenty to pick from, but none of them are the race I trained for!  Poor me right.  No not really!  So I was, and a still am trying to come to terms with running Plan B or is it C! The truth of the matter is, I am an Type A runner/person, a planner, which leads me to my next discussion….what I need to work on.

Philippians 4:6-8New King James Version (NKJV)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things

  • Mediation!  I have been reading so much about mediation lately and the benefits that comes from this practice!  Most mornings I get up early, have my lemon water & ACV, make my bed, read a few devotions, and than go run.  I have tried mediation in the mornings but by the time I get to it, I am anxious about getting out the door for my run.  I have also tried various meditation apps.  Headspace, 10% Happier, Calm Forte, to name a few.  I even signed up for a 14 day meditation trial but only made it to day 6.

I suck at meditation consistently. However, it’s really something I want to commit to so I am putting it out there for all my readers. “I am going to spend time sitting still meditating every day.”  “I am going to be ok with 1 minute if that’s all I got, but my goal is at least 10.”  I AM SO EXCITED!

Meditation is a Great Tool for letting go of those anxious Feelings!

I am hoping as my skills improve, I’ll be less anxious when life sometimes gets in the way.

Whatever marathon I do run this fall, I plan on just having fun and to enjoy every moment.  SO what if it’s not the destination run or get away my husband and I had planned.  Life goes on.  “Be Anxious for Nothing”

  •  READ more Books! I have a dear friend who I also like to call my mentor, Gary Burke from Bloomington, MN.  He sends daily messages and more than once he has encouraged me and others to read more.  Reading is one of the best ways to grow as a person, leader, wife, friend, etc.  We are God’s temple and we need to treat ourselves that way.  We do have the GOD given ability to become that person we really want to be and reading is one way to become that person!
Just pick a Book and Read 10 Pages a Day

“Leaders are Readers and Readers are Leaders – Jim Rohn

My goal is to read 10 pages a day.  Just 10 pages with a highlighter in my hand.  Every time I read I learn something new and I get inspired but than all of a sudden, life gets busy again.  I stop reading.  I stop meditating.  I get more anxious.  “So instead of committing to 1 or 2 books a month, how about 10 pages a day?”  I can do that!

I am actually so fortunate to have many mentors in my life.  Dimity & Coach Mk from Another Mother Runner, Ellie from Simply Nourished, and of course my Mom.  She’s my ROCK!  Thanks for believing in me and inspiring me.  My business, my running, my nutrition, and my desire to become a better person, would not be where it is today without any of you.

  • PRAYER and Devotions!  I am getting so much better at spending more time in the word.  In fact, I look forward to it every morning.  My goal is to try and spend even more time in God’s word.  It’s comforting to know he loves us no matter what.  He forgives us of all our sins.  He is there for us.  THANK YOU JESUS!  His word gives me such JOY and who doesn’t need more of that in their life?  RIGHT?!

[reminder]Do yo have any goals you’re working on? Do you meditate on a daily basis? What other types of self care do you do to help with anxiety? [/reminder]
