A First Time for Everything – Running, Marathon, Starting a new Business, Blogging, & More

There is a first time for everything…….

Karen's First Marathon

Karen’s First Marathon

Do you get tense, anxious, nervous when someone asks you to do something that is completely out of your comfort zone?  I do!  And maybe you’re like me, avoid the task all together?  When I first started running way back in high-school, I had no idea it would lead to a first marathon!

Later running became a way for me to relieve more stress and tension in college!  Running was still fun, but it also was a vehicle for me to keep my sanity and relieve stress.  I had no intentions of running a marathon, or even a half for that matter!   Local 5k, 10K and occasionally 8 or 10 milers were all distances that seemed appropriate.  13.1 or 26.2…those were way out of my radar…so I thought.

Hope your Easter was as special as mine.  Some days are just just so perfect aren’t they?  Easter Sunday is such an incredible day.  HE IS RISEN INDEED.  Doesn’t that just put a smile on your face!  It sure does mine!  Easter Sunrise Service has always been a tradition for us growing up as kids.  Not sure how my parents managed to get all four of us kids dressed up in our easter outfits and to church on time.  Seriously they ROCK!

Aren’t the good days great!  There is nothing as refreshing to a body and soul as having a good day.  You know, those days where everything seems right.  Perfection.  Bright sunshine!  Both outside and inside of us.

10 Ways I try to Love and Heal my Body Through Food – (so I can keep on Running).

Organic Veggies

Whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, heal from an illness, or keep running till you’re in your 80’s, heck why not 90’s, here are some healthy tips I have discovered that work well for me.  Remember, everyone is different and what may seem right for one person, could be harmful to another.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse about Running?  1 Corinthians 9:24 is one of my favorite verses I take with me out on my morning runs and also, one of the most well-known verses in the Bible about running.

“Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24

It’s no secret, Christmas is a special time of year.  The lights are magical.  The snow-dusted sidewalks are pretty.  Christmas Carols are playing full swing.  And of course, tis the season for giving.  There is something about Christmas that sparks more good in people and you’ll notice more giving both to those you love and those in need.  It’s when you see bell ringers freezing but greeting you with a smile as they ring their bell in hopes for some donation, no matter how big or small.  It’s the time of year when people reach out and do kind things for others, even complete strangers.  We open our hearts a little wider, love a little more, and do our very best to make a difference in this crazy world we live in.

Weekend Fave – My Long Run and a few other things.

Friday November 20th 9 miler

Friday November 20th 9 miler

Just like everyone else, I love it when the weekend rolls around!!  I follow many other bloggers, and most all of them share some of their favorite things about Friday’s; which led me to think about this past weekend.   To be honest, I am not sure if you really care, but in case you want to know a bit more about me, here’s a run down of my weekend Fave’s.

1.  My Long Run Day!  Friday’s are most often my long (or semi-long) run days.  Since it’s early into my training, I didn’t have a 20 miler this weekend, but I did get out there and run a bit longer than I do on most week-days.  Why…because I love to run, especially longer distances.  Long Slow Distances are some of my favorite runs….so I love my Friday morning Runs…even the chilly ones!  Brrrrrr……

My Top 10 Reason Why I love to Run

Many years ago, I started running and I haven’t stopped.  As I mentioned before, I was running way back when I was a young teenager.  I remember running and the feeling I felt.  Even as a teenager I loved to run….I loved how it made me feel and that feeling is still with me to this day?.

Things definitely have changed since than.  I no longer feel alone!  I mentioned this in an earlier post but to be honest, I have learned so much from other runners and I am so glad I no longer feel like an outcast because I love to run…..alot!  Wow there are other runners just as obsessed as me about running.  There are runners everywhere, every size, and every age!

Growing up I had great access to some pretty incredible running paths (my gravel roads, ha!), so I didn’t have much of a reason not to keep running!  When I was 16, my father purchased this awesome place out in the country.

Our Farm

At the time I thought we might as well be moving to Alaska or something.  I was mad and convinced I’d never see my friends, or my steady boyfriend.  Guess what…..all my friends loved hanging with me at the farm!  Better yet, my high-school sweet heart didn’t mind the 7 mile drive out to see me either.

Truth is, I fell in love with living in the country.  So much so, our wedding festivities were held on the farm❤️.  It was the best day ever, and no, this is it not my high school sweet heart?.

Running on our wedding day

I used to tell myself almost every morning before my run, the results would pay off!  “I’d be in better physical fitness and I would eventually get stronger and run faster.”  I was right.  I kept getting faster, eventually running a 21.oo minute flat 5K and even qualifying for Boston several times.  It’s been a great ride!  And the good news, I am still running and I thank God every day I still can!

What I didn’t expect was for running to become such a big part of my life in other ways.

I have never had a weight problem but I do know there are weight loss perks to any cardio routine.  However, the biggest benefits of hitting the pavement have nothing to do with a dress size.  Just like with any other form of exercise, there’s so much more to gain than there is to lose.  Here are my top reasons why I LOVE TO RUN!
