Trying to warm up after a supporting my brother run the Very Frozen Feet Race
Warming up after a supporting my brother run the “Very”  Frozen Feet 10K Race with my Valentine❤️

Aren’t the good days great!  There is nothing as refreshing to a body and soul as having a good day.  You know, those days where everything seems right.  Perfection.  Bright sunshine!  Both outside and inside of us.

Unfortunately, this Valentine’s day wasn’t exactly perfect.  You see not every day of our life is like that….perfect I mean.  I was supposed to run a fun race this past Sunday with my brother called the Frozen Feet.  I came down with a cold a few days before the run thinking I’d have plenty of time to get well and run on Valentine’s Day.  I was wrong, but also very fortunate I didn’t run.  Sometimes we just need to trust God and roll with the punches.  So fortunately, not every day is perfect!

I say ‘fortunately’ because if every day of our existence was perfect and without challenges then we would never learn much.  So as much as I wanted to be out there running, I was quite relieved I didn’t run after seeing my brother come through the finish wheezing and out of breathe.

You see, his fastest 10K time is about 45 minutes, but due to the wind and conditions, I expected him to finish in about 50 to 55 minutes.  So about 11 am I wandered out of the warming tent and stood at the finish (he so kindly pointed out at the start) waiting, freezing, with a bad cold?.

Finally I went to the car and let my husband shoot a photo.  Luckily our car was parked near by so immediately when I saw him bent over after he finished, I made a dash to give him a high five.

Guess what his first words to me were……“Karen I am so glad you didn’t run.  I fell twice and with a marathon coming up, you could have gotten hurt and that would not have been good.”  “And trust me, you may have even gotten lost!”  Ha.  (That part is an inside joke…but for others who know me, I have been know to get lost before?).  He went on to say, “you’re out there in the middle of no where with no signs or volunteers,  just green arrows painted in the snow every so often to direct you”.

He had a blast but it was one of the toughest, if not toughest runs he’s ever done.

So although I was having a bad day, sometimes we need to trust that everything happens for a reason.  This is one race I was fortunate not to run!!!!  It was a great experience for the both of us.  Aaron enjoyed his first trail run, finishing fourth over all!  You ROCK BRO!  And I enjoyed staying safe and somewhat warm in the tent while he ran.  Besides, according to my brother, they may have had to send a search and rescue team to find me…HA!  Oh boy am I glad I didn’t run!

A lesson learned, when times seem to be at their most dismal and dark clouds fill the horizon, that is the time to really watch for that ray of light that is certain to break through.  Although it’s difficult, try and maintain a positive outlook during the funky periods.  Those dark days will come and go but are needed to balance life out.

It’s not easy I know but spells of darkness can really make you appreciate and embrace the good times that will follow….like warming up by the Fireplace with my Valentine.  Thanks hubby for my amazing treats!
