No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn – Hal Borland

It’s no secret here in Minnesota that this winter is definitely disrupting my mental game when it comes to running.  Thankfully I am not training for any big races but just maintaining my fitness by attending my good friends run and tone classes and incorporating these daily runs and strength from these Monthly Programs.

But this winter still sucks big time.I’m a true believer that we learn from the hard stuff, yet some days over coming adversity is just hard!  It’s April and we have SNOW EVERYWHERE and are in the middle of a winter storm watch.  UGH!The input from fellow bloggers and friends from my fellow friends who are training for Boston and are “keeping their chin up” and “seeing the silver lining” has helped immensely.  After all, how can you not be inspired by Shalane!

However, it’s truly my fire from within that gets me out the door each morning! This winter I’ve seen the treadmill more often than not for my speed workouts mostly due to icy and snow covered roads.  However, every Friday you’ll see me out there before the rises running in the COLD & WIND, for two plus hours. What exactly is the FIRE WITHIN?

Where is Spring?  This Robin and Runner wants to know Mother Nature!

I am tired of winter just like everyone else, but I happen to have this love for running and a fire within me that doesn’t die.  I keep going despite the weather, inconvenience, discouragement, and discomfort it may cause.

This is what I believe.  You don’t have to agree with me since I’ve been known to be called crazy more than once…mostly from non-runners.  Training is hard. It is suppose to be.  BUT recovery is even harder. I have friend who can’t run right now because of injury.  Trust me, that’s harder than training.  While you’re training, at least you can decide how much you want to put out there every day.

With recovery though, your body is limited.  Every time my friend tried to run, it set her back further. We need to listen to our bodies and try our best to give it the time it needs. It’s not easy. I know, cuz I have been there before. I personally like the place I am in right now.

Tell me what to do every day to stay active and injury free during the off season, and I AM THERE 100%.  I love showing up for Sarah’s Run and boot camp classes because when you’re surrounded by other motivated individuals, life is just good! And these Core Ladies ROCK!

I will do what it takes to be successful and to stay injury free…even when it’s snowing and cold and windy in April.

What does all this mean?  How do I stay disciplined?  I guess is that’s spark from within that keeps me going. The only thing I do know is this, I won’t give up. And, you shouldn’t either.  I don’t know if you’re healthy/training, or injured or fighting a battle of another kind, just please don’t give up.  Keep the FIRE WITHIN!

Whatever demon you are fighting, and I know most demons are worse than a stress fracture, a torn hamstring, a sore knee, etc, keep up the fight. Keep the fire within. God is on our side! Pray for help. Ask for help. Keep the Faith!

This is one of my faves. If you need this today, read this again and again. 2 Timothy 4:7
