Running, Hiking, and Eating In Utah, Arizona, & Finally Las Vegas

I am not even sure where to begin with this post. It’s been quite a week. I think the best way to describe our experience is through photos we took as we made our way to LasVegas.

Lost in Beauty!

So if you enjoy looking at pictures with stories attached, you’re going to love this post. As they say…a picture is worth a thousand words…..ENJOY!

This is me right out side our front door of our Air B&B….GORGEOUS!

Our trip started in Utah after picking up our rental and driving a few hours to Kanab, Utah. The views were incredible.

Once we got settled into our quaint Air B&B we took the time to check out the view outside our door. INCREDIBLE! We had dinner at a highly recommended steak house….neither one of us had steak but they had a damn good beet salad for me and a burger for Rob.

We were both exhausted from a long day of travel so lights were out before 8 pm. I was out running by 4:30 am (with Rob’s flashlight since it was dark) and I ran into town and back which was somewhat lit at times. Unfortunately I still managed to get a little lost…OOPS! After running back and forth a few times getting more and more confused, I called my husband for our address. I plugged it into my phone, and sure enough, I was less than 500 feet away….He walked out to the end of our drive and found me ?.

The green dot is our place but I ran back and forth and back and forth etc but never far enough. At least I brought my phone…I just couldn’t remember the address?.

I changed quick, we hopped in the car and headed for the North Rim, which was in Arizona, and since they don’t do daylight savings time, we gained an hour. Seriously, I was kind of confused all week on what time it was…and day to be honest!!!!!

Our drive was lovely and I especially enjoyed stopping to let the Buffalo cross, or are they Bison, and is their difference?.

When we finally arrived to the North Rim where we met up with a crew to get fitted for our mule ride. I found it super cool that they pair you up based on your unique personality to the best mule for you. Meet Mr. Preston! Preston was a lot of fun but he did like to eat…a lot! He was particular hungry on our ride and kept trying to sneak treats and we were told not to let our mules eat by pulling back on the reigns. Needless to say….most often Preston won?.

Riding the mule down into the canyon and back up again was breathtaking. It’s been on Rob’s bucket list a long time and seriously, I am GLAD his dream came true! I had blast helping make it happen.

After our mule ride we drove our car up a very curvy road for over an hour. We hiked to a point where we had a stunning view of the trail we just completed. It was incredible! We walked up a few other trails and had more views. It’s truly remarkable.

We were definitley hungry by the time we had dinner….and it was soooo YUMMY. We enjoyed some delicious shrimp tacos for an appetizer and I had a Vegetarian Red Curry Bowl. The chickpea patties were incredible and the sauce….OMG. SO GOOD! Check out this place if you visit Kanab, Utah.

Dinner at Wild Thyme! AMAZING!

Kanab also has an amazing Artisan Bakery which we didn’t discover till our last morning there. Bummer I know! The selection of fresh pastries were amazing plus delicious egg dishes, oatmeal, granola, salads, etc. Since I just ran another hilly route, I settled on a delicious Vegan scone to pair with my Protein Shake.

After breakfast we headed to Zion National Park. To be perfectly honest, this place is just as stunning as the Grand Canyon.

Our Bed and Breakfast was outstanding. We had the entire place to ourselves since we were the only guests. The owners actually sold their business about a month ago or so and were in the process of closing. Since we booked months ago, they honored our reservation. We’re looking forward to meeting the new owners on our next trip! Yep, there will be a next time.

The Harvest House

Dinner that night was at The Spotted Dog which is within walking distance from our B&B.. It was delicious and I loved the atmosphere! We started out with salads and shared a Grilled Vege plate with a basil oil dressing. Our other entree was Pasta Pillows in a lemon herb sauce. Everything was delicious and we even saved room for dessert?. My fave! Chocolate Lava Cake.

Dinner at the Spotted Dog

My favorite part of Zion….and probably the most popular hike of all…..THE NARROWS. We were up before sunrise and our gracious host at our B&B had coffee brewing before 5 am.

By 6 am we were out the door on our way to catch the first shuttle to take us to the last stop where we had a mile hike to start our journey up the river. I am sooooo GLAD I brought my jacket. The water was chilly.

Most of the time the water was about waist high……but the further we hiked, the deeper the water. At times the current was so strong it swept me away…BRRRRRR. It didn’t take me long to realize swimming is much more fun in warmer water. Thankfully I recovered soon and was back on my feet for more?. It was COLD!

It truly was a workout since you are hiking against the current. We hiked about two hours up and then turned around to head back since we had to have our car back to the airport before starting the second half of our trip which was our annual Shaklee Global Convention in Las Vegas.

The entire hike round trip takes about 7 to 8 hours. On our next trip we’ll definitley plan to stay in Zion a couple extra days. There is so much to see and do.

This concludes our trip before staring our work conference in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to share more about what happened in Vegas this year. After all, when you’re in Shaklee, what happens in Vegas, never stays in Vegas?.

Which National Parks have you been to and your fave?

What is your favorite places, other than National Parks to hike and explore?

What best describes you…trial runner or road runner? Road for now but I could definitley see myself doing a trail race!

Do you travel to Vegas for business or pleasure? And are you a gambler…I have never once gambled there but we love the food and entertainment!
