Cherry Açaí Smoothie, Summertime Heat & Run via Power

A cool and creamy cherry açaí smoothie is the perfect summertime treat. Superfood açaí blends with tart cherries and creamy cashew milk for a nutritious and satisfying post run breakfast or snack. This vibrant açaí smoothie comes together in minutes and fills you up for hours.

WHAT IS AÇAÍ?

Açaí is low in calories and packed with antioxidants. Plus, this Brazilian superfood fruit is brimming with vitamins and fiber. Yes, açaí is the star of this smoothie! But trust me, it’s the cherries that really makes all the flavors just pop! I love the organic frozen cherries from Costco but you can also pit fresh ones if you have the time….and have more patience than me?.

WHAT DOES ACAI TASTE LIKE?

Açaí is tart and earthy, without much sweetness. I personally love adding a date to my açaí smoothies or bowls.

WHERE CAN I FIND ACAI FOR MY SMOOTHIE?

Look in frozen fruit section of your grocery store. Along with the other frozen fruit, you’ll find freezer packs of açaí puree. I have found them at Trader Joes, Costco, and Azure Standard. Open the frozen smoothie pack, squeeze the frozen açaí into the blender and you’re done—so simple and easy!

ACAI BOWL VS. SMOOTHIE

Fruity, cold and served in a bowl, açaí bowls have a thicker consistency and require a spoon to eat. An açaí smoothie has a creamy consistency and is easy to sip in a glass with a straw. An açaí bowl calls for less, if any, liquid. An açaí smoothie has enough liquid to make it drinkable. So basically all you need to do is decide how much liquid to add and either drink from a straw or use a spoon?. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF CHERRY AÇAÍ SMOOTHIE

This smoothie was PERFECT after my Long Run Friday. It was SO HOT! My only goal was to run the mile I was in and do my best to run at a consistent power.

It worked! Was it easy….not at all but it was still a good run??‍♀️. Below you can read my Instagram post on why I decided to run via power……

CHERRIES

You can bet this smoothie tasted amazing after my long run! But not only are they delicious, cherries are packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. They have also been associated with reduced muscle pain after exercise and they improve your sleep. I have included the link to my favorite Performance PM Recovery Complex if case you would like to try them. I promise you will be sleeping like a baby in no time! Who doesn’t need more zzzzzz’s!

BANANA

This smoothie is naturally sweetened with banana. Bananas contain pectin and low-glycemic sugars, so they won’t cause your blood sugar to spike, especially if you use green tipped ones like I do. You can use either fresh or frozen banana for this açaí smoothie recipe. I also like to add a pitted date but it is totally optional. I love the combination of dates, cashews, and cherries.

CASHEWS

If you’re looking for an alternative to dairy milk, cashew milk is an excellent option. It adds a creamy thickness and irresistible nutty flavor to smoothies. It’s one of my favorites!

MORE CHERRY, THE MORE MERRY!

If you love cherries like me, give this smoothie a try and check out some of my other smoothies.
