Almost 60, Aging Backwards, My Favorite Coffee Hack

Bring on 6-0! Am I crazy or just crazier than I/you originally thought? Who likes getting older?

Do you fear getting older? Many people do and to be honest, it’s ok if that is you.

But here’s how I look at it. You can either dread your age, or embrace it and make a decision to not let it dictate how you feel.

To be honest, it seems like yesterday I was celebrating the big 5-0. I can’t believe I am 10 years older……which is the point I want to make. I don’t feel 10 years older and I have been told I don’t look or act like 60 either 🥰

When I lost my dad he was only 57 years old. It wasn’t until my mid-50’s that I realized how young he really was when he tragically died in a work accident. Life is short so we need to live every day to the fullest and that is what I am trying to do the best that I know how.

“You are what you think”

So instead to telling yourself “I am too old for that”, start telling yourself you are going to do everything you can to live younger longer.

I personally believe you can change your state of mind about getting older. In fact, when I hear the phrase ‘getting old sucks’ I think to myself…but it doesn’t have to.

What if you could age backwards?

A few months ago I had a blood draw from inside tracker. It’s super cool because they test up to 43 blood biomarkers—including glucose, cholesterol, cortisol, and hemoglobin etc—for a complete and holistic analysis of your health. Whether you want to improve athletic performance, extend longevity, or improve your overall wellness, this is amazing!

I am about to go for my second draw and I can’t wait to get the results back. My biggest goal was to lower my cortisol levels by meditating more consistently and taking more time for recovery after a harder workout.

I am also excited to see if I lowered my biological age even more. Currently my Inner age is 56.1 but chronologically I am 60 (in less that a week). What this means is that the my cells in my body are actually younger than my age. Being younger inside is GOOD and I want to keep it that way!

Do you want to age backwards?

Here are a few things I am doing to live a healthier younger more active life at age 60 and beyond.

  • My plan is to live YOUNGER LONGER. Technology today is helping us to live longer better! It’s time to take advantage of that. Want to learn more? Start by reading Lifespan by Dr. David Sinclair. It’s a great book. Get a blood draw and work on the biomarkers that are preventing you from aging younger.
  • I take good quality supplements that are personalized just for me. As we get older, our bodies need help repairing themselves from the inside out. My cells are younger because I am giving them vitamins and minerals that help them repair. I also attached my blood panel to this free quiz to help me get on a supplement program that is right for me. Taking random supplements does more harm than good. I am happy to connect with you to get you started.
  • Combine cardio with strength training – Cardio alone is not going to help you live longer. In fact, if I want to keep running into my 70’s and 80’s I need to strength train. Strength training develops strong muscles which keep us from getting injured. They also help us burn more fat and keeps our heart beating strong.
  • Sleep – I’m a firm believer in getting 8 hours of sleep. Sleep is probably the MOST important health tool you should focus on. Sleep helps you to repair, regenerate and detoxify your body. Here I go talking about technology again. I am a firm believer in personalized nutrition from Shaklee which helps me discover what supplements are right for me and my oura ring to track my sleep. A couple things I try to do before bed is turn off technology about 30 minutes before bed and I make sure my bedroom is dark and cool. I also take a sleep supplement again from Shaklee. I have improved my deep restorative sleep by almost 90 minutes by taking this product. Dream Serene is a game changer! You can grab one here to try it….it’s 100% guaranteed and so worth it!
  • Hydration – drink at least 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces each day. My goal is 100 ounces. The only beverages I drink other than water is my one cup of coffee in the morning, my energizing green tea with collagen9 in the afternoon, and my herbal tea at night before bed. If I do have a second cup of coffee late morning I add Collagen9. It’s a great way to enhance the nutritional value of your coffee!
Collagen9 is a game changer!
  • Quiet time or Meditate – Instead of reaching for your phone the first thing in the morning, meditate, read devotions, or just breathe. I am still working on this but trust me, the days I do this, I feel so much more grounded.
  • Gratitude Journal – One of my favorite ways to journal is documenting three things I am grateful for every day. When I do this it leads to writing more thoughts and it just make me feel good.
  • Eat more plants ~ I am not telling anyone to be a vegetarian or go vegan, but I am suggesting everyone try to eat more vegetables. My goal is 9 fistfuls of veggies a day. The more veggies the more fiber and the healthier gut you will have. I also love to Intermittent Fast or Time Restricted Eating – not because it’s a fad but because it helps your body to HEAL and gives me a ton of energy!
  • Breathing – I practice yoga a few times a week and this is when I really practice my breathing. I also try my best to focus on this when I am running. I breathe through the nose and our throught the mouth…it sounds easier than it is, especially when I am running. This is a great book in case you are interested in learning more.
  • Cold Therapy – This is not just a fad! I honesty hate cold showers. UGH. In fact I would rather climb in a cold tub for 5 minutes than take a cold shower. But when I don’t have the time to fill up my tub to take a freezing cold bath, I end my shower with a just 30 seconds of freezing cold water. It’s not exactly my favorite thing to do but it’s worth it! I love how I feel after…Give it a shot.

Let me know which of these you try. Remember whatever you do is better than doing nothing at all.

Let the countdown to 60 begin!

I love getting older because I get smarter each year and learn more about myself and the world. The Dream Serene is definitely helping me with sleep! I’ll look into the blood tests – would be great to see my results but not sure if it’s affordable for me right now. Love this blog post!
