New Raspberry & Cream Protein Oats, Why Collagen

Say hello to your new craving summer quick and easy Raspberries and Cream Oatmeal recipe. I love making these on cold winter days to remind me that warm summer days are coming! I can’t wait!

One of my favorite Costco staples is their assortment of fresh organic berries. This past weekend I purchased two big containers of organic raspberries. I always buy two becuase I end up snacking on one all the way home 😉.

My thoughts are that everyone should have at least one good berry oatmeal in their breakfast arsenal at least once a week! So if you have a handful of berries left in your fridge, may I suggest you make these creamy oats.

If you’re like me however, and you can’t decide if you want raspberries or blueberries, I have you covered. This recipe for sprouted blueberry oats and my ultimate creamy oats are fabulous too.

But now I am adding this Raspberries and Cream Oatmeal to the mix. Total game changer.

Can I use frozen berries?

Fresh raspberries in this recipe is a must since frozen ones just don’t taste quite the same. Of course, if that’s all you have, go ahead and use them.

No Coconut Cream?

Coconut cream is totally optional. If you can tolerate dairy, feel free to use whipping cream. I personally love a splash of non-dairy milk on my oats with the raspberries. It looks pretty! Plus it’s a great way to use up some coconut cream you have any left over in your fridge from a previous recipe.

Are oats good for you?

Since there is some mixed feelings about the health benefits of oats, it’s worth repeating, oats are GOOD FOR YOU. Some may say there are too carb heavy, or raise your blood sugar, but remember if prepared correctly, they make for an excellent breakfast any day of the week.

My tips:
* use organic oats ~ sprouted bonus
* add collagen ~ @shakleehq
* use non dairy milk
* top with healthy fats

In this post I discuss all the health benefits of oats and here I break down the macros. Since discovering this amazing collagen product, I have been adding it to all my creamy oats to increase the health benefits even more.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is actually a protein that is an important building block for not only your hair, skin, and nails, but also your bones and connective tissues in your body. We all need collagen to hold our bodies together. It’s incredible for your joints so if you run, walk, ski, or want to stay active, you should be using collagen on a daily basis.

Does collagen decrease as we age?

You bet it does! It naturally starts to decrease as we age… as early as age 20. Women see it decrease even more rapidly during menopause and it goes downhill from there. Other factors also contribute to a decrease in collagen…too much sun, smoking, and sugar consumption

Can we build Collagen?

This is the good news! YES! Vitamins like C and B are expelled when your body has had enough. The super cool thing about collagen, your body uses every last drop you give it. However you need to use a high-quality collagen product to increase your chances of absorption. When your collagen is hydrolyzed it is easier to digest and absorb.  Be sure it has all 9 essential amino acids and biotin plus vitamin C. Yes, topical collagen products will help your skin from the outside, but consuming collagen will help your hair, nails, bones, and connective tissues.
